Butt Joints….Just Caulk It! A great solution for un-flashed hardie plank butt joints. Caulking hardie plank butt joints is an important step in the installation process to ensure a weather-tight seal and prevent water damage. To properly caulk hardie plank butt joints, follow these steps:

1. Clean the area around the butt joint thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any dirt, dust, or debris. Remove all failed caulking with sharp knife.

2. Apply tape on either side of butt joint. Cut the tip of the caulking tube at a 45-degree angle to create a small opening for application

3. Apply a generous bead of exterior-grade caulk along the entire length of the butt joint, filling in any gaps or spaces between the planks.

4. Use a caulk smoothing tool or a wet finger to smooth out the caulk and create a seamless finish.

5. Wipe away any excess caulk with a damp cloth before it dries to prevent unsightly smudges.

6. Allow the caulk to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions before painting or finishing the hardie plank surface.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your hardie plank butt joints are properly sealed and protected from the elements for years to come.
