真空断熱コップ／ Vacuum-Insulated Cups

DENJIRO: I am wearing a homemade sauna suit. The metal sheet reflects the infrared rays coming out of my body and prevent them from escaping. Also, the bubble wrap will create a layer of air and offer insulation... making the inside of the sauna suit warm. The principle behind my sauna suit and the principle behind vacuum-insulated containers that keep cool drinks cold are quite similar.
Let's take apart a vacuum flask! In order to prevent infrared rays from escaping, there is a metallic coating to reflect the rays. There's actually another way that the flask insulates heat.
I have two containers here. Both of these cups are made of two layers. Now, we'll put ice water in them. One has water droplets on the cup, whereas the other doesn't. The one with the water droplets has air between the two layers of the cup, so it doesn't offer much insulation. On the other hand, there is a vacuum between the two layers of the cup that has no droplets. Insulating with a vacuum instead of air reduces heat conduction, so the drink is kept cool.
Let's do another experiment. Here is a device that can create a vacuum inside any sealed container. We hang a piece of ice inside and outside of the container and take the air out of the container to create a vacuum. What's going to happen now? There is no air to conduct the heat inside a vacuum, so the ice melts much slower.
