This is the longplay of the game Holy Diver, an action and platform game developed and published by IREM, released in 1989 for Famicom, exclusively in Japan and re-released in 2019, with distribution by Retro-Bit.

The story of the game takes place in the year 666, in the World of Magic, more precisely in the region of the Crimson Kingdom. This kingdom was suffering destruction at the hands of the Black Slayer: the demon king of the Dark Empire. Seeing that his days were coming to an end, the 16th emperor of Crimson, Ronie IV, entrusted his faithful squire Ozzy with the custody of his sons Randy and Zakk, as well as their training in the cause of magical justice. Seventeen years passed, Zakk disappeared, Ozzy died and the Crimson Kingdom was dominated.

In the game, we control Randy, who must set out in search of five seals that, when gathered, will give him a chance against the threat of the Black Slayer, who over the years has taken over the kingdom and strengthened his interdimensional forces. The game is a platform and action game, and Randy uses magic to fight enemies and also to overcome obstacles, such as breaking rocks and freezing rivers and lava waterfalls. With each stage completed, Randy gains a different magic. In addition to the magic, Randy also gets some power items such as bracelets, jumping boots, a protective cape, an item that transforms him into a dragon, as well as health and magic upgrades.

The game's style is very reminiscent of Castlevania and its difficulty level is extremely high, with challenging level design and extremely aggressive enemies.

The entire game has references to rock icons, from the plot to the characters mentioned. Despite being the same name as Dio's album, the game has no direct or official connection to it, other than the name. Due to Nintendo of America's censorship policy at the time regarding the extensive use of religious symbols and the like, this game was not released in the West.
