Sir Keir Starmer is due to deliver a speech addressing the new US-UK trade deal this afternoon.

The deal between the two countries was widely expected to be narrow in scope, with the UK focused on trying to reduce the impact of some of Mr Trump’s tariffs. The US president’s remarks suggest the agreement could be broader than expected.

The agreement will be Mr Trump’s first trade deal since he launched his global tariff war last month and it will represent a significant win for Sir Keir as he seeks to reduce the impact of the US president’s tariffs on Britain.

Sir Keir said on Thursday morning that the deal will help to deliver “security and renewal” for British workers, businesses and families.
