Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week we have Jada Griffin, Sam Claiborn, and Bo Moore joining Daemon as they take a look at the Nintendo Switch 2. It's more powerful, can run more games, and will cost you more money. Is the new hybrid console worth $450 for the base model? And will the new Mario Kart World be worth a whopping $80 alone? Plus we have a new poll for you to vote on at IGN.com.

This episode of Next-Gen Console Watch was produced by Daemon Hatfield and Jobert Atienza. Technical direction is by Jobert Atienza, with technical production by Marhyan Franzen and Amir Rakib. Audio engineering is handled by Amir Rakib. Post-production editing is by Jobert Atienza, and graphic design is by Justin Vachon.

Next-Gen Console Watch is an IGN production and part of the Geek Media Network.

@Solrac81

I miss the days of new consoles coming with a game and two controllers out of the box.

@JunkBallMedia

I can stomach $450 for a console however $80 for a game is a deal breaker.

@Panimal98

The console price is reasonable. It's the games that are the issue. With these tariffs, high cost of living, mass layoffs (and certainly more soon), high-end and high-cost production games, as well as other factors, the AAA gaming industry is in trouble if they keep this up. Consumers will become much more reserved about what they buy, especially in the gaming market. I personally haven't bought a game since Metaphor: ReFantazio.

This is a repost of a reply.

@quiron139

I'm calling it now. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will some day be a 20 questions game that they will not answer correctly

@birdgangnaj

People gonna bitch about the price and will be the first to post a picture of their console and game with a seat belt on 😂

@hrdgms27

I think the concernable thing isn't talked about here, which is the price of games.

@JustWatchMe

I’ve been hyped for the Switch 2 ever since the direct and can’t wait to get a couple in my household. I’m 44 and have 6 kids. New Nintendo consoles bring me and my kids together and fill my house with fun.
Just thought I’d add some positive vibes up in here 🙏🏼

@guitarguy42394

Fun fact, retail cost will not be 450 and preorders on April 9th got postponed due to tariffs so in the USA it’ll likely be closer to 550-600 dollars by the time it releases

@datboirb

Pepperidge farm remembers when games were $59.99 usd

@HarrisNtemar5O5

What about last week's poll results? Where are they?

@GreshmanH

I think about all the hours I got out of my switch. I played super smash bros well over 1000 hours, not to mention other Nintendo exclusives. I have a steam deck, I’m still going to buy a switch 2. You likely will too. My bet is this is a success.

@Terron29

Console at 450 is absolutely fine. Delighted with the power. Very happy to see 4k support, 1440p support and variable refresh rate up to 120 fps. 450 for this is fine imo and I am delighted they didnt cheap out too much on power to keep price down because we are gonna be using this thing for 6-8 years. Its the game prices that are a bit of an eyebrow raiser. 70 should be the max. That said these new cartridges are much more advanced and likely cost a lot more so looks like now we gonna have to pay more for physical if we want them. I would rather it be 60 - 70 euro for new switch 2 AAA games and maybe 75 for physical but hitting 80 to 90 is too much. Reselling tears of the kingdom for switch 2 albeit improved for a full 80 is very greedy.

@MrMystikmyk

22:45 I'm so excited for Dustborn. Huge fan. So are 6 other people.

@SolidusSnapes

The worst thing about it is how cowardly they hid the pricing until after the direct.

Absolutely spineless behaviour.

@beefy6747

I’m an adult man with adult money. I just want to play Mario Kart and feel like a kid again.

@starbwoybling

I’m not even about to complain because I’m buying it regardless. I spending so much money on iPhones and other techs that the switch is actually a good price for me .

@Will5353_

PS5 is $110 cheaper in Australia

Mario kart world is a $120 (Aussie)

@boycottactivision

Nintendo has the best AAA Margins in the industry, This is pure Greed

@Automattikk

As others have said. If the “physical” games are just codes to download the games, then they are not PHYSICAL GAMES.

If I want to own a physical copy of a game, then it should have the game data.

I feel like not enough people are talking about this fact.

@leatherhitman7401

Nintendo's about to hit their PS3/XB1 era.
