A huge military parade was organised in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30, 2025, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification. On that date in 1975, communist forces from North Vietnam entered Saigon, the capital of the then-US-backed South. The celebration marking the reunification of the country and the end of the Vietnam war comes amid economic uncertainty over tariff threats from the US. This year’s parade was also the first to involve Chinese troops.
