A fire broke out in a residential area of ​​Nagasaki-cho, Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, just after 2 p.m. on May 7. The fire spread to several buildings and was extinguished about three hours later. An 84-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man who tried to help her suffered minor burns. The man said, "I was on the verge of being burned to death."

The fire started in a residential area about 800 meters from Shimonoseki Station. A dry weather warning was issued, and at the time, a northwest wind of 5 meters per second was blowing.

The police and fire department began an on-site inspection the following morning. They are working to identify the source of the fire and the area burned, but the investigation will continue due to the widespread damage.

The Shimonoseki City Fire Department strongly urges people to "immediately call 119 in the event of a fire and evacuate to a safe place." Especially during windy periods, the risk of fire spreading due to the wind direction increases, so it is important to evacuate quickly.
