Can you mix ropes?

You're NOT supposed to use the square knot to join dissimilar diameter ropes. The square knot slipped in all our tests

I wouldn't recommend using the square knot to join any ropes that you trust with your life. Triple fisherman knots work for dissimilar ropes.
