Miranda Zammarelli, Guarini, was a graduate student at Dartmouth for just nine days when her interests in birds, history, and archives converged in a set of old filing cabinets in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.
Miranda digitized and analyzed 52 years of territorial survey maps of songbirds at Hubbard Brook that co-author Dick Holmes (Bio Sci, emeritus) hand-drew each year from 1969-2021. that songbirds have set but flexible territories that allow them to adapt to fluctuations in abundance and maximize reproduction within their preferred habitat, keeping species stable overall and less vulnerable to shocks.
