Israel faces international backlash over Gaza operation | US warns Syria could collapse in weeks

The United Kingdom has announced it is suspending trade deal talks with Israel; the British prime minister describing the new offensive in Gaza as “utterly intolerable”. The European Union is also piling on the pressure, announcing it will review its political and economic ties with the Netanyahu government.

The European Union has agreed to lift all economic sanctions on Syria, following the US promising to do so last week. The EU's foreign policy chief's announcement in Brussels came as the US Secretary of State fronted a Senate Committee urging support for the country's transitional government.

The European Union has announced new sanctions against Russia, a day after President Donald Trump's two-hour phone call with Vladmir Putin failed to achieve a ceasefire. The United States has so far not joined Europe in imposing its own sanctions on Moscow, despite public lobbying from European leaders.
