「名刀」という言葉を我々愛好家は日頃何気なく用いておりますが、その本質的な意味を敢えて突き詰めるということは、案外しないものです。日本刀専門店として日常的に名刀と接している我々ですら例外ではありません。
今回テーマとしたのは、まさに【名刀とは何か】という、まさに刀の世界の本質を考えていくシリーズです。
名工の鍛えた作品、それこそが名刀
早計にそう捉えがちですが、果たしてそれでいいのでしょうか？それだけが正解なのでしょうか？
日本刀専門店銀座長州屋所蔵の無銘則重の短刀（重要刀剣）の実物と、特別重要刀剣図譜等の資料を比較しながら、正宗、吉光と共に「三作」の一角として古くより名刀の代名詞とされる江（郷）を深掘りし、江が名刀たる所以に迫ってまいります。
在銘作が存在せず、それゆえ「江と化物は見たことがない」などと言われる江（郷）義弘。そして同国の則重。実は則重の無銘の作は、まさに江の作域と一致するのです。
正宗そして江・・・名刀はなぜ名刀とされたのか？

We sword enthusiasts often use the term "Great sword" casually, but we rarely delve into its essential meaning. Even we, as a Japanese sword specialty store dealing with famous swords daily, are no exception.
This time, our theme is a series exploring the essence of the sword world, asking the question: "What exactly is a great sword?"
We tend to quickly assume that a great sword is simply a work forged by a master craftsman. But is that sufficient? Is that the only correct answer?
Using an unsigned Norishige tantō (Important Sword) from the collection of Ginza Chōshūya, a Japanese sword specialty store, and comparing it with resources such as the Special Important Sword Illustrated Record, we will delve deep into Go (Gō), which has long been considered synonymous with great swords alongside Masamune and Yoshimitsu as one of the "Three Great Smiths". We will explore what makes Go's swords truly famous.
Go (Gō) Yoshihiro, of whom it's said "No one has seen a signed Go work or a monster," and Norishige from the same province. In fact, the unsigned works of Norishige coincide precisely with Go's style.
Masamune and Go... Why were these swords considered famous?
